Begin with a universal and objective basis: light. Light is the material that reveals, exposing the physical world and rendering it visible. Notice the depiction of colour, or of its absence. Discover the limitless possibilities through the combinations of the CMYK spectrum and feel the nuances when paired with shadow and shape. Then the object, the raw matter of mass, that which supports content. Be it rough, or well manufactured, it transforms and expands from its innate substance into a refined work of art.

Mater can seemingly provide content in and of itself. Embedded in the light, the colour, or in the object, are subjects which appear to be contained in their nature and are drawn out through language or through our human interaction. Inexhaustible themes in art history, multitudes of artists have explored these concepts: from Caravaggio to Dan Flavin, from Duchamp to Matisse, it would be pointless to establish an exhaustive list. However, the approach we have chosen is to dedicate ourselves to the experience, and to the diversity of this trinity of physical properties. Throughout the exhibition the chronology is designed to be free from obstacles of theory or technique, the viewer is left at liberty to perceive on their own terms. Art, much like perception, is, at its core, an unexplainable phenomenon that captivates our awareness due to the fact that there is no concrete basis of understanding. We each form our own interpretations and, in the end, are left with only our own insights. The artists chosen for this exhibition present works that play off of our perceptions, which will in turn invite us to a response.
